Paddle from Temple Bar to Gateway Cove and Hike to Yurt Butte:

This is a full day trip, with about 9 miles of paddling and about 6 miles of hiking. Again, this is to an area almost no one explores by kayak or on foot.

To get to Gateway Cove, we'll paddle around Decision Island and across Temple Basin. You can see from looking at the aerial view that we'll be hiking a narrow canyon, and then up a broad desert wash, and finally climb up into a classic desert saddle to visit the "yurt". This is a another classic desert hike; we'll explore the desert geology and the flora and fauna.

See desert animals and vegetation of Lake Mead; Mojave Desert Flora and Fauna.
